What's included?
Insurance companies have a vested interest in their client's fleet safety. Employing full-time loss control or risk management staff, providing safety and compliance training and consultation, or outsourcing these functions can provide exellent value, fostering customer and brand loyalty - besides reducing collisions and managing claims. Insurance carriers and their agencies that offer safety, compliance and loss prevention resources on their website can also provide tremendous safety and compliance value. |

Assuming that the insurance company "keeps me legal" is a recipe for disaster. Why? Example; Since MVR's (driving records) were re-classified under the Fair Credit Reporting Act as "consumer reports" they may only be ordered with written authorization from the driver to the trucking company (the "end user"). Insurance companies may request driving records for underwriting purposes but as "end user" of the information for this purpose only they may not share a copy of the driving record with any other entity - including the driver's employer. It is illegal under FCRA to send a copy of the MVR to the trucking company for their driver file. |

Key #6; Does the fleet insurance provide adequate safety support? |
|
Normally insurance value is vague or unclear unless it's time to file a claim or to seek support service such as a state filing or audit assistance. By then it's too late to discover that GAP coverage or loss prevention services werre not included in the policy.
Fleet insurance decisions should not just be left up to the finance personnel who might only considerr premium when calculating ROI. Involving operations personnel to advise CFO's of their safety and loss prevention needs helps them bind an insurance policy that provide not only adequate financial coverage - but adequate operational support as well.
